San Gerardo de Rivas is located 20 km east of San Isidro de General – the second largest city in San Jose Province – in south central Costa Rica.

The main Park Office is located in San Gerardo where information is available and the mandatory bookings can be made for your climb.
The village is located in the uppermost reaches of the Rio Chirripo, with views of the Talamanca Mountain Range rising into the clouds on the continental divide. Surrounded by the peaks of Mt Chirripo, Mt Uran, and Mt Ventisqueros etc. the setting is ideal for nature lovers and those seeking to explore the outdoors. Waterfalls, cloud forest containing towering trees and exquisite flowers, birds of every colour and variety are here to greet you.
San Gerardo can be reached by bus, taxi and car. Please click Directions for routes and buses. The journey from San Jose takes about 3.5 hours via Cartago and through the impressive Cerro de la Muerte.
