Everywhere you wander in San Gerardo you will discover beautiful flowers, fruit-bearing trees and magnificent tropical vegetation, but there are also three Gardens you can visit and learn more about the flora of the region.
Long prized for its variety of orchids San Gerardo is a treat for enthusiasts and gardeners alike Make sure you allow time to visit:
1. Los Cocolisos Truchero (Trout Farm)
Open: Saturday and Sunday 8a.m. – 6p.m.; or for visits at other times call to arrange.
The family has a beautiful garden including a prize collection of orchids and welcome visitors to learn more about their beautiful specimens.
Located: on the road to Barrio Chispa. From the plaza in San Gerardo walk about 200m up the road. Just before the bridge the road forks. At the fork turn left and walk about 100m. Los Cocolisos is on your right.

2. The Secret Gardens
Open: Mon to Sat, 8am–4pm
Location: 300 meters north of the MINAE offices, on the road to Herradura.
Visit the Secret Gardens and discover the tropical environment characteristic of our community. Hike the easy access trails to see the immense variety of heliconias, bromeliads and orchids native to this beautiful region of Costa Rica, that provide a unique variety of flowers and cactus, colours and scents in the garden.
Discover the colourful birds that live in our garden; whose song, together with the sound of the Rio Blanco, creates a place of natural harmony and relaxation.
We have counted five springs that provide life to our garden and refuge for the most beautiful aquatic plants and animals. From our lookout you can view the majestic Talamanca Mountain Range that peaks at Mt Chirripó.

3. Casa de Orquideas (Orchid House)
OPENING IN DECEMBER!
Enjoy a guided tour through the Fonseca family´s beautiful garden that boasts an exceptional variety of orchids. In addition, enjoy and learn about the many other flowers, fruit trees and rare trees, including Cedro, that grow here. Visitors may also visit the family´s coffee plantation. Afterwards enjoy coffee or juice while listening to the garden birds sing.
