When you come to San Gerardo, your visit will be more rewarding if you are accompanied by an experienced guide.
Maribel
I’m Maribel, I studied tourism for many years and I’m a certified guide, and speak English as well as Spanish.
I’m interested in showing you my community and sharing with you some little known facts about our culture.
For example, a tour of San Gerardo includes hiking to the most beautiful waterfall in Cloudbridge Reserve. One important part of the project at Cloudbridge is the reforestation of the mountain side with indigenous species. On the trail I can tell you stories about San Gerardo’s past. My family was the first people to settle here and start farming.
Coffee is the most important plant in Costa Rica. In this tour I explain the process for growing coffee and the best time for picking beans. How to prepare a delicious cup of coffee, and afterwards you can try some!
Enjoy the magical Chirripó National Park, the highest point in Costa Rica. The tour includes visiting the Cloud Forest and “Paramo”: the most extensive high altitude vegetation in Central America. Also we will see glacial lagoons and Lake Chirripó – 21m deep with fascinating evidence through carbon dating of an ancestral fire.
One interesting part of San Gerardo is the Chispa. The Chispa is a historic place because of the history about indigenous culture. There is a specific family who has a beautiful indigenous art making cooking pots and carved flutes.
Welcome to San Gerardo! You will be happy so close to nature!.

Hello.
I am Sonia Padilla. I live in San Gerardo de Rivas, next to Mount Chirripo. I am a guide with eight years of experience leading tours to Chirripo and surrounding areas, and I speak English and Spanish.
I want to make your visit more interesting and memorable, so let me tell you a little about the places we can see together. It is possible to hike under a forest canopy and see many varieties of orchids and bromelies. At the same time, we can look for many birds, for example: the quetzal, toucans, Yiguirros [Costa Rica national bird] and listen to the beautiful song of the jilguero.
San Gerardo has many special places to visit and things to do including a spectacular waterfall, traditional trapiche [sugar mill], coffee plantations, etc. For many years I have led hiking groups to Chirripo. I can guarantee an incredible trip, where it is possible to see some of the most majestic sights in Costa Rica. From the peak you can see both oceans, and Irazu, Poas, Turrialba and Barva Volcanoes, as well as Baru Volcano in Panama.
After spending a night at the lodge the experience of viewing the sunrise from the top is something you won’t want to miss. We can visit the Crestones, where it is possible to see the Sabana de Leones, the Valle de los Conejos and Mt. Ventisqueros.
