Arte (mia) Crafts

‘Through painting I am able to express myself without words. My paintings reflect what I see, what I feel, and certain moments in life that I wish to remember forever.’

Art is thriving in our region, in many different forms. One of the most notable artists is our neighbour Carmen Monge. She tells the stories in pictures of Costa Rican country life: coffee-picking, making dulce, going to market, cooking and baking; the characters in her paintings are all drawn from real life and you can spot some of them as you wander through San Gerardo. Carmen paints in oils and acrylics to achieve her unique folkloric style. Her paintings hang in a gorgeous gallery set in her garden that features ponds and an aviary. Carmen herself will welcome you to the gallery and retell the stories behind her paintings.

‘My name is Carmen Monge Marin. I grew up in a humble, loving home in San Gerardo. My life has been filled with many gifts: a good husband, five beautiful daughters and the ability to paint! I use bright colours to express people and images in nature with birds, butterflies and beautiful flowers. I hope that you enjoy my paintings and take pleasure in sharing them with others.’
